Modern Technology in Education

In a digital era, humans, aided by artificial intelligence, globalisation and the fast diffusion of ideas across borders, are improving cognitively and intellectually at an exponential pace. Along with this advancement of technology and civilisation is the evolution of the education experience, where the quality of education is highly prized. To educate a child about the world – its symbiotic relations at the heart of Biology, its iterative events recorded in History, its power dynamics and geopolitical concepts of space and boundaries captured in an ever-fascinating study of Law – is to equip the child with the necessary tools to not just survive, but to lead a wholly meaningful and engaged life.

In teaching our children and the generations after them to think, we also teach them about choice, about right and wrong and every grey spectrum in between, so that each individual makes smart choices that may galvanise positive change and revolutionise our world. This is why the quality of education schools provide is so important.

To supplement this education experience in schools, tuition centre has grown in popularity, where courses like Chemistry tuition or Economics have proliferated, widely-sought after by enthusiastic parents eager to kickstart their children’s learning abilities, to earn them a head start in a culture of competitiveness.

While this competitive culture is often negatively regarded by those who seek to offer a respite to their children, or children who themselves cannot handle the stress, it is crucial to recognise that healthy competition is the impetus for improvement. As opposed to a monopolisation of the education scene, the proliferation of tuition centre means that each centre, owing to the classic laws of Economics 101, has an incentive to upgrade and improve on the quality of education they provide as part of a promise to enhance their students’ learning abilities. In addition, this proliferation offers a unique cost-reduction in tuition fees as centres attempt to outcompete their rivals, which means that students benefit from increased accessibility. At the same time, those who fall through the cracks are likely to receive more attention from teachers in school, as their peers who seek tuition outside of school often turn to their tutors for help, freeing up school teachers’ time for those who need it the most.

We are on the cusp of a global era where new discoveries are being made every second around the world. Our children are the key to unlocking and sustaining greater potential as they now have unprecedented access to higher education, be it in schools, private institutions or tuition centre, as well as opportunities to excel regardless of race, colour or socio-economic backgrounds. As we enter a new world, bold and brave, we look to the far horizons, filled with hope and faith in the positive changes to come.
