Maintenance on the weekend 16th - 17th June

Hiya,

This thread is about upcoming maintenance on the Edublogs servers coming up on the weekend 16th - 17th June.

Essentially we're growing at such a rate that we need to do some hard work now to make sure that we can cope with future demand, so we're moving to a multiple server set up to accommodate this, provide you with quicker response times and take Edublogs to the next level.

Unfortunately, at this stage, part of this involves actually doing real, physical stuff to the servers which means that edublogs.org (but not learnerblogs.org, uniblogs.org or eslblogs.org) will experience some downtime over the weekend.

We'll do our best to ensure that it only happens at night in the US and Europe, where most users are - hopefully you won't notice the effects at all.

During that time these forums will also be offline.

We'd like to apologise in advance for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Needless to say we're *always* backing up everyone's data so that will all be safe.

If you've got any questions please feel free to post them below.

(Incidentally you'll need to register at the forums here to participate in the forums... we'll fix up the design after we've fixed up the hardware!)

Cheers, James

Good luck James.
I know you are working hard to keep things running smooth, and I have said it before, but I appreciate it.

Question, If I'm getting the message that it's on the old server, and I approve comments, will these approvals record when the new server comes up?

Yep, that'll be fine, just try to avoid uploading :)

Not uploading, SIR! But since this is my first weekend of summer vacation, and there has been some interesting commenting activity on my blog (I'll have to remember the magic words, black students and white teacher if I ever want to generate comment traffic again), I've been talking a lot.

Yep, that certainly helps! After working for these guys http://theage.com.au for a year I have a pretty much inbuilt understanding of how to disturb people into commenting / clicking!

Congratulations btw, on full time employment here (I'm sure it's been seemed that way already).

:)
