Reordering the Links list

On the manage links page, I can change it to order by rating, but on the blog it stays ordered by name. Can I make it order by ranking on the page the students see? Or is there another way to specify the order of the links?

Answers from fellow members and edublogs support

It may be hard coded into the theme that way. It's always a plus to give a link to the specific blog or specific page in question so we can see what is occurring. It's even one of the requested bits of information:

If your post is a help or support question, and you want a speedy resolution, please post specific links, detailed information, paste any code between backticks and tell us the browser you are using.

Also, please tell us what steps you've taken so far to try to fix the problem.

oh, sorry. it's dbrooks.edublogs.org
the links list is on the right. I want to put the dictionaries together, the college links together, the practice sites together, etc.

I've added a Dictionaries category for links, so maybe I can just do the rest that way, but I'd still like to have more control of the order of the links.

l would REALLY REALLY REALLY like to order my blogroll by rating - but it does not show up that way. I'm using Blinx

I have looked through the questions and I was surprised to see that I actually asked the same thing one year ago, before giving up on my blog !
I guess I'll have to number my blogroll so as not to give up again :-) ... but a reply would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi Anne??,
What do you mean by ranking? If you look at the blogroll or links on my classblog, I have them divided into link categories such as 2009 bloggers, links - art, links - maths, our school blogs, teacher blogs etc. The categories are then in alphabetical order with numbers first.

You can assign a ranking to a blogroll link. When you bring up a link for editing or add in a new one, look under the Advanced tab at the bottom of the page. There's a tiny drop down under the Notes box. (I had to look twice to find it myself.)

What's strange is the Links widget has an option to show the rating but not sort by it. That's weird.

In the drop down menu at the top it does offer me 4 options - with one of them "order by rating" but the only button nearby is "filtre". - it line them up in the admin space from lowest to highest rating .... but there is no "apply" button - and it changes nothing on the site ... do you think this is specific to Blinx ?

Yes it looks like it is an issue with that theme because the Links widget has no option to make changes. If you change your theme to Edublogs Default you will see that there are 4 options for displaying your links.

Blix replaces a number of the widgets as ithas a history of problems with the standard widgets that come built in with the software. What you;re looking at is probably theme specific.

Well - thanks. I did as suggested (changed to the default theme) and it has put my blogroll in order of rank - so now I'll just have to find the photo of my mountains again - the view from my window.
Thanks for your help
Elizabeth

Oh, yes. Some themes are hardcoded as well to display the links in that manner. Had forgotten that. Sorry. :)
