I've had the very same problem with some of my students' blogs on learnerblogs.org. In Nov/Dec, one student received the "that blog already exists" message after receiving and clicking on the link in the activation email. Today (1/31/07), a number of my students attempted to create learnerblogs, and 4 or 5 of them received the same error message. After a few reloads, one of the students' blogs appeared on screen, but with "bare bones" formatting (not the usual default formatting). I told the other students to try again tomorrow. Their usernames are somewhat unique, and this is their first ever exposure to blogs, so it seems unlikely that the blogs already existed. Also, they were able to make it through most of the set-up process and were beyond the point where you find out if your username or blog name is available. Tomorrow I'll look into it more to see if I can find a common denominator between these students (and I'll track down their usernames, in case that helps). I know one is Donta(something) and another is Marvin(something)...
I tried today to create a new blog... I chose a name and put in the email address pforton@icsd.k12.ny.us It pops up and says "“This email address has already been used. Please check your inbox for an activation email. It will become available in a couple of days if you do nothing.†Yet there is nothing in the email inbox!
Urrgggghhhhh!!!
I've been looking into this overnight and it's a hardware problem - basically I need to do some upgrades to get this going 100% smoothly - which will cost a lot and take time - it will happen though - so please can I apologies and ask for your patience in the meantime.
rsevilla I've sent you a gmail invite - use that to create a new blog.
Hi James,
I've send this to the wrong site, but can you please help me?
I’m using theme Quentin by Mike Purdy, and it doesn’t display my list of blogroll. Could anyone please help me with this problem? How do I make my blogroll appear?
Cheers.

As an update, now my students are getting additional error messages.
Some get "blog already active" when they try their initial log-in.
Others get a password, but when they use it, learnerblogs takes them to the "create an account" page as though their username didn't exist (although they are entering the username and password accurately.). Others get a message that says the password is wrong when they use the one that appears on screen.
Right now, about 25% of the students are having problems.
Thanks for the note about the hardware problems. I just wanted to pass on info about our latest errors in case it helps with your upgrades.
Matt
A fellow teacher in my building is receiving these kinds of messages, but they are not happening to every student of hers. Some are able to register today but others tried last week and their email addresses are no good for a long time - should they just wait or do they need to do something to clear their emails or try again?
I am the teacher in the building. ALL of the above problems are happening in my classes. My students receive the activation email with the link that tells them the account has been activated, some are redirected to the signup page, some receive a message about a php download, and some never got an email- you name the error, it is happening to one or more of my students.
We began creating accounts in learnerblogs on Monday
learnerblogs is experiencing some difficulties due to it's pretty stupendous growth in 07 - very annoyingly this is spoiling some signups (this is also happening at edublogs - a bit) and I'm going to need to get in a coder and some new hardware - it will arrive though and once users have their accounts everything should be fine.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Today I had some progress. The students who had not received a password yet hit the "login" link on the new Homepage, typed in their username, and clicked on the forgot password link. After following those instructions, they finally received their passwords and some were able to acess their blog. Others, however, are receiving a Word Press Error stating that they don't have enough permission. Any suggestions? My email is jennifer.mueller@k12.sd.us
Thanks
I can activate my new blog, but no email arrives with a password.
Is this the glitch awaiting hardware and a coder?
Thanks, I'd love to be up and running.

I have been experiencing the same problem.
This is a problem that I'm working on now very hard to fix - sorry for any inconvenience - I'll let you knoe when everything is back in place.
Please add the delete button back into the blogs, so we can delete errors etc. (and also free up a name if someone else wants to use it!)
Creating blogs is certainly not as smooth as it is in wordpress.com. Why do you have things running in such a 'cut down' version? Is it cost and hardware? I guess while it is all free we can't expect everything.
Anyway, help to delete blogs would be brilliant.
I'm trying to create a new blog (http://copyright101.edublogs.org) but I can't get past the email address deal -since I've created several other blogs with the same address. I've been able to do this in the past, but can't do it today. What am I forgetting?
Make sure you;re logged in first (with your old account info) and then go to http://edublogs.org/wp-signup.php
I need to delete specific student sites. I am admin, but some students need to be deleted while others do not. Is there a ways to do that?
There's a Delete Blog page on the backend. Dashboard -> Settings -> Delete Blog.
Be sure to read, review and understand what's on the page.
The admin of the blog (I'm assuming that's you) gets an email and has to click a link to confirm the deletion of the blog.
Be sure to read, review and understand what's in that email.
Once the blog is deleted, it doesn;t come back or can be reused. Unfortunately some folks miss that part which is why I'm being a pest about it.

I just tried helping a teacher create her first blog. We chose globalkids as the blog domain and registered it to the teacher's email address pforton@icsd.k12.ny.us. We rec'd the confirmation email and clicked the link to activate it. It opened and now says "that blog already exists!"
Can you help me help her?
