multiple edublogs

I'm delighted that I can create multiple blogs on the service, but when I go to the Edublogs home page & log in, I am taken to one particular blog -- the first one I created, last semester, and that is currently inactive. Is there some way that I can set my preferences so that when I log in I'll be taken to a page that lists all my blogs? The only way I can get to such a page currently is to hit the Create New Blog button. That page lists my current blogs. This is deeply counterintuitive. It gives me Blackboard flashbacks.

Answers from fellow members and edublogs support

I don't believe there is a common dashboard. The easiest would be to go directly to your blog, then login

That'll be fixed fairly soon - you're right it is a pain.

As per your other comment have a look in Options

That will be great. It will be nice to be able to go to a single page & then click on the appropriate blog. Glad it's in the pipeline.

I'm setting up blogs separately for different courses I teach. How do you create multiple blogs using a single email address?

If you have a gmail account this can be easily resolved by generating and assigning a separate email address for each student. To do this, just add a + sign and the students first name after your gmail address. (youraddress+student1@gmail.com) Each student’s username and password will be emailed to you.

Is there no way to create a second blog using the same email address?

Yep, as long as your signed in just visit edublogs.org/wp-signup.php and you can create as many as you want.

Or if you're signed into uniblogs.org, visit uniblogs.org/wp-signup.php

Cheers, James

I'm adding to this thread because I'd like to echo the sentiments of the original poster. It's VERY annoying to not have one common dashboard, as exists in other blogging services (such as Blogger.com). If you have ONE username but multiple blogs of which you are of user (perhaps admin on 2, editor on 2, contributer on another), it is really not user-friendly to have to click, click, and then click again. Please, Edublogs -- can you make this feature simpler? One common dashboard -- a starting place -- for those of us who want to run multliple blogs from one username! I am using blogs as part of a Literature Circles unit, which means that I have a separate blog (on learnerblogs.org) for each literature group, across three different classes. That amounts to 12 blogs! I'd like to see them all -- have summaries, even -- from ONE common place, esp as I am admin for all 12.

The same is true for my students, who might need access to 3 or 4 different blogs, depending on the novel they are reading, role they play, etc. Really not user-friendly.

Honestly - on a service like Blogger, I can do this, easily. The only reasons I'm not using Blogger? 1- I want to support websites that support education, and 2- Blogger is blocked by some government-run ISPs in the country that I live/teach in. I like other things about Edublogs, however, particularly the professional look about it (probably because WordPress is so clean and smart-looking).

Hiya,

All of these features are coming - and we do appreciate your feedback.

A simple drop down menu where you can select which blog you want to administrate is what we're aiming at.

We are a little behind blogger in some ways - what with them having $millions in funding, staffing and wotnot ;) But we're also ahead in others...

But we'll get there on all fronts soon enough, thanks for bearing with us.

Any progress on a menu for blogs? I'm finding it a little difficult to navigate between my blogs.

Isn't just rolling your mouse over teh blog title in your backend easy enough?

I created a second blog, lithits.edublogs.org, but am unable to edit it. When I try to login from this blog, as was suggested earlier, I'm taken back to my first blog, leejk.edublogs.org.

I also tried logging into it by going to lithits.edublogs.org/wp-login.php as was suggested in another strand. But that took me back to my first blog too.

I created the second blog from the administration page (the page that has links to all kinds of things I might want to do with my blog, so I clicked on the link to add a new blog). Since I couldn't edit it, I watched the video and went to Users, then added the new blog. It told me the new blog was successfully added (even though that url should have already been taken).

The new blog is created, but I just can't edit it. Please help! Thanks!

Hover your mouse at the upper left when you're looking at the Dashboard for a drop down menu. Do both blogs display? If yes, try clicking on the second blog. If not, James or Andrew are going to have to take a look at this.

You're going to the first blog since it's your primary blog and is set up as the default. You should be able to change the default at Dashboard -> Users -> Your Profile -> Primary Blog. If you can't, then again, it's something James or Andrew are going to have to look at.

Thank you, but it didn't work. My 2nd blog did not show up when I hovered my mouse in the upper right of Dashboard. When I went to Users-> Your Profile, it said my primary blog was my 1st blog and it didn't even show my 2nd blog.

Maybe it's because I didn't create the 2nd blog the way the video said to do it, but I created it through that other link?

I think I need help... James? Andrew?

It sounds to me kliek you've created another blog with a different username etc.

To create a blog that you can admin you need to either:

- Visit http://edublogs.org/wp-signup.php when you;re logged in
- Use the 'Creator' and check yourself as co-admin

Otherwise it's a different blog with a different username.
