Hi,

Thanks for the comments.

After creating an account and logging in to the blog, we do not see the content ads anymore. The school is firewalled which is why they couldn't see the ads themselves.

Thanks again

On a free Edublogs blog you have two types of ads - the ad at the top of the post and the content link ads.

The displaying on the content link depends if you are logged into your account and whether you have refreshed the page.

To remove ads the blog will either need to be upgraded to an Edublogs supporter or have the ads disable by an Edublogs supporter blog - http://help.edublogs.org/2009/09/10/upgrading-your-blog-to-edublogs-supporter/

Ajaan,
Another way to get a 12 month supporter paid for, is to take part in some of the competitions run at 'The Edublogger'. Sue Waters runs these quite a few times a year with a 12 month subscription as a prize. These competitions are open to teachers, students and anyone who is blogging whether they use Edublogs or not.

Greets:

Best bet would be to send in an email to support at edublogs dot org. Please include the necessary information like your paypal transaction numbers.

Like most internet companies, James and crew provide support via email. It's too cost prohibitive to have someone sitting by the phone 24/7 waiting for phone calls. Most companies that provide phone support are also known for providing few employees to answer those phones and very long wait times. Sending in an email is the best method as it also puts all the required information if front of those who can deal with the issue.

Just to let you know, you only need to post once about a specific problem that you are having. Most forums online frown upon making multiple posts as it takes time away from those trying to help out.

I've also gone ahead and removed your email address so not to have it picked up by spammers.

Hope this helps,

I would like to contact someone. I had joined edublogs and was paying a fee every three months for my students. This was last year. I thought I cancelled my subscription but I was recently charged again. I did manage to sucesfully cancel payment with paypal, but I need to speak with someone at edublogs directly. Can you provide a contact number, the one paypal gave me is no longer in service. I am worried about a company that makes it so difficult to find their contact information. Please email me with a phone number.

Hmmm, I thought I had answered this. Sorry.

Without being there to see what's occurring and without knowing what specific browsers are in use, it's kind of hard to tell. My guess would be your school computer network has some sort of firewall or other type of protection that is blocking the adverts.

Just for reference, the correct url for your site is http://jvw3.edublogs.org/ The 'jvw3' bit takes the place of the 'www' bit, they shouldn't coexist. Most search engine spiders won't follow such a link and you'll have problems with folks trying to follow such a link as well.

Hope this helps,

I could have sworn that Sue had done an article on the mixpod but I don't see it right off. It;'s just copy and paste of the provided code into a text widget I believe.

Hi,

Our school has just set up class blogs. At home , my son can see the links for the adverts which pop up. However, in the classroom the teacher does not see these links and therefore can't help in stopping them appearing. What is the difference between the class computer and visitng the blog at home. blog url is http://www.jvw3.edublogs.org.

tware,
Kids love adding a mixpod to their sidebar on their blog. You can set it to play when the blog opens or have it closed so the students can then open it when they want to.

To be honest, the real method would be to edit the underlying software, add in a popup that only loads a single time, and plays from that popup. That way the music won;t restart when you click on a link to go to a new page within the site. We can't do that here.

Google'ing for this pulls up many different solutions. I'm going to point you at this one here:

http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2006/07/embed-mp3-files-into-your-website.html

The code usage would be the following:

<embed src= "http://www.odeo.com/flash/audio_player_standard_gray.swf" quality="high" width="300" height="52" allowScriptAccess="always" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashvars="auto_play=true&valid_sample_rate=true&external_url=[MP3 file address]" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"> </embed>

Where [mp3 file address] is the location of your mp3 file. You don't have to use a file from Odeo.

The reason why I'm suggesting using a player like odeo is that the code is different for different browsers. For example:

http://www.thesitewizard.com/webdesign/backgroundmusic.shtml

This way the code stays simple.

I would suggest placing the code within a text widget within your site's sidebar. Do remember though that the filoe will reload each and every time the visitor goes to a new page.

Hope this helps. Please give it a try and get back to us.

I'm training fellow teachers to use blogs and one wants to set his blog up to automatically play music whenever the students go to the site. There don't seem to be any answers already on the forums. is this possible?

I always suggest not using *.doc files actually. I've seen too many networks that disallow or modify them due to security concerns.

I don;t have Word installed on this computer so I can't double check. The REVIEW-5.doc file does download and open in wordpad though fine. It's garbage for me since I can't read the format but seems to work fine for me.

I'm using IE8 for reference.

Are you sure your student doesn't have a little younger brother who's playing with her? Seriously asking. Had this issue with one of my hosting clients.

Password change would be helpful but since most browsers save login information as a default, it wouldn't help a little brother as all they have to do is hit the login key if they're using the same computer.

Sue and/or James are going to have to check on this when they come on line as we don't have backend access here in the forums.

When you look at your stats page, are you seeing the Dashboard wrapper (ie the sidebar along the left and top) or is it a completely blank page?

If it's completely blank, usually a forced reload of the page helps. Please give this thread a read:

http://edublogs.org/forums/topic.php?id=8149

If the content is missing but the Dashboard wrapper is there, that's something that Sue and James will have to check.
