Merry Christmas from edublogs

Christmas comes early at edublogs this year, partly because the day itself isn’t much known for teaching and learning ;), partly because we want to give the team a break… and partly because we just wanna spread some cheer!

So, as of today you should have, available in your edublog:

  • A snazzy new editor option (click it to get more editing options :)
  • Tags for every post (and also on every theme!) – tag clouds for your sidebars etc. all coming soon
  • Ten swanky new themes to choose from (two of which are pictured below)

Unfortunately there are a few hiccoughs associated with the gift (sorry) which include:

  • Themes switching back to the defaults one (FIX: just go back into ‘Presentation’ and choose the original theme)
  • /s appearing in your titles and taglines (FIX: Just edit them out under ‘Options’)

Sorry for the bother with these, with one hand we giveth and with the other we annoyeth!

But most importantly, have a happy Christmas and new year from all of us here at edublogs, and we can’t wait to bring you even more goodies in 2008!

Moving from EduSpaces to edublogs?

Unfortunately, EduSpaces announced today that they’re shutting up shop in January.

Needless to say that leaves a lot of bloggers looking for a new home…  and we’d like to extend them all a warm welcome here :)

One blogger who’s already made the move, Alicia Wyatt, has posted a quick ‘how to’ (and associated issues) for moving from EduSpaces to edublogs.

And if you get stuck / need some extra help please feel free to contact us at support (at) edublogs /dot/ org for assistance.

CommentPress

We’ve been testing it for a while, and all looks good, so time to make it official… edublogs has gone and got itself a case of CommentPress.

What is CP? Well, it’s a spanking theme from the Institute for the Future of the Book that “allows readers to comment paragraph by paragraph in the margins of a text”.

Pretty neat huh!

So what can you do with it well, I reckon there could be some pretty neat papers, thesi (sp?) or plain old posts put together using this theme. Or, whatabout support guides, lesson plans or anything else that could be fed back on but by bit. And that’s just my limited imagination. Here are some more examples.

You can even use it as a plain old blog theme.

So, visit ‘Presentation’ and give it a whirl… happy commenting!

100,000 edublogs

What more can I say, last week we passed 100,000 edublogs and we’re extremely happy about it :)

Well, OK, I can say a bit more, in fact we’ve currently got more like 103,000 blogs, separated over four sites (63K on edublogs.org and 39K spread across the student sites).

In September at edublogs.org alone we racked up 268,638 unique visitors, who dropped by 904,053 times enjoying 13,701,840 page views while sucking up almost 500Gig bandwidth.

Phew!

And to add to that we picked another new webserver, introduced upgrades, synced up with your webmail for invites and generally had a very busy time of it.

And October is going to be just as fun – we think you’re really going to like some of the things we’ve got planned.

So thanks for being part of our first 100K… and happy edublogging!

Treat yourself to an upgrade

Upgrades have come to edublogs :)

Yep, we’ve only got one little baby in place at the moment (you can upgrade to 1Gig upload space for $25 a year) but we’re going to be adding more and more (like running an edublog at your own domain) so that, if you so choose, you can really take your edublog to the next level.

All you have to do is click on ‘Upgrades’ in the menu bar, buy some credits and go on a spending spree…

And, what’s more, you can even give edublog credits to other users as presents!

Upgrade!

Also, naturally we remain completely committed to providing and improving edublogs completely free of charge!

Happy uploading…
